Three Key Points:

When we experience trauma, we have the tendency to subconsciously resort or return to behaviors from our past to help us feel safe and protected. We could have chosen those behaviors on our own or adapted them from what we learned from others.

When we learn to have compassion for ourselves, we can free ourselves from the self judgment and the internal self talk. Compassion is a trait that comes from the middle. It must be used or given in a positive and empowering way. Compassion must be given yourself before you can authentically share it with others.

Having compassion awareness helps you empower yourself and others. Understanding when you are disempowering people in the name of compassion is essential to knowing the difference between helping them and enabling them.
